My fascination with financial markets began during my years as a psychotherapist. As I watched the erratic behavior of my clients when stocks crashed in October 1987, I was amazed at the power of markets to make people abandon common sense.
When I later learned of the Elliott Wave Principle, my clients' irrational behavior during the crash suddenly made sense. I began to understand that most investors are carried along by broad waves of optimism and fear.
I'm Tom Denham, Elliott Wave International's Senior Metals Analyst. Since 2001 I have applied Elliott wave analysis to currencies, metals, stocks, interest rates, energy, and commodities. In my early days with EWI, I also taught classes on how to trade with the Wave Principle.
Today you, me and everyone else is able to trade precious and base metals as easily as stocks – via exchange traded funds (ETFs) and other similar instruments. But to win, you still need that edge we all are looking for.
I started trading just after the ’87 crash. Trading is like driving at night. Your headlights offer a limited view of the road, but you can safely complete a long trip that way.
I hope you will come along with me on the metals trip as I shine the light of Elliott on the road ahead.
