Social Mood and the Eugenics Movement: Will You
Make the Cut?

By 1945, the Nazi genocides had removed all sympathy for the practice of weeding out "inferior" peoples. But do you realize how popular this ideology was before World War II, even in England and America? Avid proponents of the "eugenics" movement included Alexander Graham Bell, William Randolph Hearst, Woodrow Wilson, John Maynard Keynes, Winston Churchill, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes and Yale economist Irving Fisher.

Educated people seem to think the eugenics movement will never rise from history’s trash bin. Alas, the facts say otherwise. A dramatic change toward a negative social mood began in 2007: Like it or not, that mood will drive the resurgence of eugenics.

Impossible, you say? Please consider the evidence.

Eugenics is already making a comeback. The Netherlands recently considered a bill that would force two years of contraception on "unfit mothers" and place their babies in state care. A New Zealand politician proposed paying the "appalling underclass" not to breed. A well-known scientist and author complains that earth has "too many people." Yes, this is mostly talk -- so far. But talk always comes first. The deeds soon follow.

The Socionomics Institute unveils its latest well-researched forecast for social change and asks, "Will You Make the Cut?"

Remember, The Socionomist forecasted a militant turn in Russia before it attacked the Republic of Georgia. It predicted a new season of epidemic disease before the pandemic outbreak of Swine Flu. It forecasted a rise in serial killings before the latest two serial killers made headlines. It predicted surrender in the Drug War before Mexico decriminalized certain drugs and President Obama ordered the FDA to stop raiding medical marijuana facilities.

Can you afford not to read another prescient issue of The Socionomist, which could even matter to your life? Ask yourself: When they come around to check on you, will you make the cut?
