Elliott Wave International's Asian Markets Analyst to Speak at CLSA Investors’ Forum in Hong Kong, Sept. 24-25
September 17, 2009 -- The greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression has created many long term opportunities in Asia. Even as Asian markets continue to rally, Elliott Wave International (EWI) analyst Mark Galasiewski has identified which Asian markets are long-term bulls and which are long-term bears. He will discuss those markets on September 24 and 25, 2009, at the 16th annual CLSA Investors' Forum in Hong Kong.
The current six-month-long rally in Asian markets follows an 18-month drop in prices. Galasiewski turned bullish and called the turn in Asian markets on March 23, 2009, nine trading days after the low in the MSCI Asia-Pacific stock index.
Speakers at the forum are known for presenting cutting-edge perspectives on finance, economics and geopolitics. In his presentations, Galasiewski will also discuss EWI's research into mass social behavior and how it relates to major Asian-Pacific markets.
Some highlights from Galasiewski’s recent writings include:
- Why outbreaks of infectious disease in Hong Kong are actually long-term bullish for the Hang Seng Index (i.e. avian flu in 1997, SARS in 2003 and swine flu in March 2009);
- How long-term and short-term technical patterns in Australia's housing market point to the same conclusion: the largest housing bear market in decades;
- Why the recent correlation between India’s main stock market index, the SENSEX, and its currency, the rupee, is likely to unwind;
- How a stock valuation measure in Taiwan reached a level in 2008 that was even lower than in the United States after the Great Depression -- and what significance that may have for the island nation; and
- Why Al Qaeda or its followers tend to attack American targets after major declines in Pakistan's stock exchange.
CLSA is an independent brokerage and investment firm headquartered in Hong Kong with 19 locations across 15 countries. Its Investors’ Forum will run from September 21 to September 25, 2009.
