What Happened to The Bullish Books Sentiment Indicator?
Best to Answer the Question Visually
You're reading this text on the Internet, so it's very safe to assume that you've spent some browsing time on America's no. 1 online retailer – Amazon.com.
The company has greatly expanded from its beginnings as an online bookseller, yet it remains true that Amazon's bookstore is head and shoulders above anything like it on the Internet (actually there is nothing like it on the Internet).
That's why several of us here at Elliott Wave International keep a regular eye on the sort of economic/investment books that seem popular on Amazon – call it a slightly unorthodox sentiment indicator.
It should come as no surprise to you that for a full decade – 1998-2008 – bullish books were dominant among the titles we'd see; stocks and real estate were the most common, but there was no shortage of bullish books for nearly every class of assets.
Of course, this has changed in a big way in a very short time. Yet we haven't forgotten how many and for how long the bullish titles held sway. A colleague of mine put together a graphic image to give you a small taste (emphasis on small) of what we saw over the years.
